Get to Know Dr. Christine Fischer
What made you want to be a dentist? I originally became interested in dentistry because my childhood dentist said that he still loved his job after practicing for over 20 years. Once I started working in the field as an assistant, I knew that I had found my calling. I love the combination of art/science/ and building relationships with patients. Everyday is different and new challenges keep things exciting.
What are you most excited about when it comes to dentistry?
I love the artistry of dentistry. Working on front teeth and restoring them to their natural beauty, or enhancing what nature gave a patient makes me the most excited.
Why should patients choose you?
I always do my best for every patient. Some teeth present a challenge, and some patients require a little more comforting and help dealing with dental fears or anxiety. I am always striving to make sure that my patients are as comfortable as possible and leave with a better understanding of the health of their mouth.
Where did you got to school?
Marquette University School of Dentistry, UW-Madison for Undergrad
Where were you born? Where did you grow up? Where do you live now?
Born in Milwaukee, grew up in Brookfield. I went to Brookfield East High School. (My parents live less than 10 minutes way from the office!)
What do you love about your job? What motivates you to go into work everyday?
I Love getting to meet and connect with our patients. I also LOVE the challenges and variety of dentistry. Being able to use my skills to give a tooth another chance at life or to help improve the look of someone’s smile makes me so excited!
What do you enjoy to do in your free time?
I am a dentist with a sweet tooth who loves to create new things in the kitchen. My specialty is birthday cakes, especially for my niece who puts her cake request in months in advance. This year for her fifth birthday she has requested a rainbow unicorn cake with sparkles!
Tell us about your family/pets?
I am very close to my family and in addition to my wonderful parents I have both a twin sister and an older sister. Our family has grown to include my two brother’s in-law and now two (soon to be three!) nephews and a niece who I love being an auntie to. I am also excited to be newly engaged and planning my wedding for next year! My fiancé is also a dentist, so we spend a lot of time talking about teeth together!
Can you play any instruments?
I don’t play any instruments but I am a singer! I sang in competitive choirs in high school and was also in musical theatre. Now I mostly sing or hum to myself while I am working.
What is the nerdiest thing you do in your spare time?
Watch dental videos on Instagram! I am a big dental nerd and I truly love learning about teeth! I find it strangely relaxing watching other dentists work and I always learn something from the way that different people work.
What was your childhood nickname?
My twin sister called me “Chrispy-Chicken” which is definitely the strangest. I went by “Chrissy” so that became lots of different names, including “Chrispy” and then I became a chicken. My other sister calls me “Rehian” which is actually a distortion of her name “Catherine.” I was calling her “Cath-er-i-hi-an” which became “Rehian” and a nickname was born. It confuses our mom but it is still our special name for each other!
What is your perfect Sunday?
My perfect Sunday is a day where all of the weekend chores are already done and I can spend time with my niece and nephews during the day. An evening where I have time to cook a meal with my fiancé and enjoy a glass of wine. Sunday is always my day to prepare for the week so having that all done and just being able to relax would make it the perfect day!
If you could choose your age forever, what age would you choose and why?
I definitely would not want to go back to my dental school days or re-live my 20’s. I worked hard to be where I am and all of the experiences that I had shaped me, but they don’t need to be re-lived! Maybe my answer will change but so far I am enjoying the new experiences that come with each year.
If you could only choose one vacation destination where would you pick and why?
Anyplace warm during our long Wisconsin winters. My fiancé and I love to scuba dive so someplace with good diving would be great!
